Letitia James Faces Federal Financial Fraud Charges
A federal grand jury has indicted the New York attorney general over allegations of financial misconduct on Thursday, per a person familiar with the matter.
Lindsey Halligan handled the presentation of this case before the judicial panel on Thursday, the person said.
Federal prosecutors do not typically appear before a grand jury.
Halligan was appointed as US attorney the previous month after the president grew impatient regarding the progress in ongoing probes against his rivals.
This action represents the newest attempt to utilize the Department of Justice to penalize adversaries.
It follows two weeks following Halligan secured charges targeting the former FBI director.
Career prosecutors drafted a memorandum in that case detailing why charges were not justified.
Comey entered a not guilty plea this past Wednesday.
